While Telstra’s Xbox One X plan is still priced at a firm $34 per month, the Xbox One S alternative has a $5 monthly saving, which amounts to $120 you won’t have to spend over 24 months. Still, that’s a minimum cost of $528 over those two years for a console that you can pick up for an RRP of $399 today. That total amount looks even less flashy when you consider the $549 RRP for the Xbox One X, plus the reality that the next-gen Xbox Series X console is launching later this year. What makes the deal more appealing is the inclusion of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which bundles Xbox Live Gold – online multiplayer and monthly free games – with Xbox Game Pass, which has a library of 100+ first-party and third-party games. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate usually costs $15.95 a month and offers game library access for Xbox One consoles and Windows 10 PCs. This deal also bundles a copy of Forza Horizon 4 ($99.95RRP), which is a little odd because it’s on Xbox Game Pass, along with the excellent LEGO Speed Champions DLC ($29.95). In this context, the $896.75 you’d otherwise pay for a new Xbox One S, the Forza stuff and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate – which Microsoft consistently offers at least the first month for $1, so that’s been factored into our maths – looks a whole lot tidier as a minimum $528 fee, more so if you’d rather pay things off over time and don’t mind waiting to buy a next-gen console. That’s a cost difference of $368.75, and if you deduct the 24-month cost of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate from this deal, you’re effectively paying $160.08 over the 24 months for an Xbox One S. Even with next-gen landing later this year, that’s still reasonable pricing. All of these Telstra deals are live now and run through to 26 May 2020.
