However, you won’t find the screen mirroring option anywhere on the Samsung Galaxy S8, simply because it is named Smart View. What is Smart View?
Smart View is basically a service that projects your smartphone screen on your television as it is. So whatever you do on your smartphone, can be viewed on the larger screen of your TV. This makes it easier to share photos and videos you shot with your Samsung Galaxy S8 with friends and family. Not only that, but you can also use streaming services to stream movies and TV shows from your smartphone on your TV. It works on a wireless network that connects your smartphone with a TV and allows for a seamless viewing experience. How to Use Smart View
1. Same Network for Both Devices
Before you start using Smart View, you must ensure that both your smartphone and the TV are on the same wireless network. This is because your smartphone won’t be connecting directly to the television but instead will use the router to do all the communication. While it does make sense to use Wi-Fi Direct but it will restrict the usability, especially if you want to stream content on the big screen. You also have to ensure that your router is not completely outdated, anything modern will do just fine.
2. Start It Up
Start Screen Mirroring Starting the Smart View is fairly simple, swipe down from the top of the screen to drop the notification tray. Swipe once more to get the shortcut icons to display, from there tap on the Smart View button. A new window will pop up and will list all the devices that can be readily connected, this will also display the TV. Thankfully, if there is only one device available, the connection will be made automatically. However, depending on the model of your TV, you may need to enter a PIN or allow access to complete the connection. This also depends on the TV you have, some TVs need Screen Mirroring options turned on in their menus. You’ll need to refer to the manual of the TV to know where it’s hidden.
3. Check for Compatibility Issues
Even though some TVs do have screen mirroring capabilities, they may not play well with the Samsung Galaxy S8. We couldn’t get a TCL TV to work with a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge no matter how hard we tried. We’re going to take a leap and assume that Samsung may not have completely solved the compatibility issues. This is to be expected, with a large number of different television brands offering all kinds of different technologies, Samsung cannot possibly make each and every one of them compatible with their smartphones.
4. Prevent the Screen from Turning Off
So now that you have connected your smartphone with the TV and are seeing the display on the big screen, you can easily enjoy a lot of different content. However, you might have noticed that the screen turns off automatically after a little while, especially when you’re watching a movie. This is because of the screen timeout settings on your Samsung Galaxy S8. Go to Settings > Display > Screen Timeout. From there change the timeout value to something a little bit more respectable, now you won’t have any problems with the screen turning off automatically.
5. Prevent Battery Drain
While the Samsung Galaxy S8 comes with a respectable battery, it may not be able to provide you prolonged use of Smart View. We highly recommend that if you are going to marathon through the whole season of Stranger Things using your Samsung Galaxy S8 and Smart View, you plug your smartphone in. This way you’ll ensure your amazing marathon is not interrupted and you have smooth sailing.
