Samsung Galaxy Fit and Fit E- Complete Review and Comparison
If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to get fit this year, both Samsung Galaxy Fit and Samsung Galaxy Fit E can help you achieve your goals. While they are in the same family, they have lots of similarities and differences. However, both devices can pack a punch when it comes to performance, but the Fit E is more on the basic features – that it handles really well, while the Galaxy Fit has more extra features – with a little bit of extra price as well.
Design – The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly
Samsung Galaxy Fit
Even though this is not Samsung’s first go at fitness gear, this is the first time they kept the design conventional. Not that it’s a bad thing, both devices are aesthetically pleasing and have a premium feel to them, but they aren’t very different than the other fitness bands in the same price range. the screen has a top glass level, something other similar bands don’t have. Another nice touch is the silver aluminum border, which could have been plastic. However, the standard watch fastener isn’t exactly comfortable. In order to obtain an accurate heart reading, you need to get it pretty tight, and you’ll end up with some beautiful marks at the end of it. You should know that each side of the strap can be replaced, so if you’re not satisfied, you can look for more comfortable replacements.
Samsung Galaxy Fit E
Considering the price range we’re talking about, this is a very well-made device. It feels much better than you would expect for what you spend. You can forget you’re wearing it, even if you had it on for a long time. Sure, the device is a little bulky, but it doesn’t look bad. The strap is pretty practical – really easy to be fastened and unfastened. You have 3 choices when it comes to the strap: either black, white, or yellow if you’re feeling daring. All in all, we’ve seen worse looking fitness bands for bigger prices than the Samsung Galaxy Fit E, which is a nice thing.
2. Display
Samsung Galaxy Fit
0.95 inch (or 2.4 cm) 120 x 240 OLEDManually adaptable brightnessColor touchscreen
Even though it doesn’t have an ambient light sensor, you can adapt the brightness manually, it can withstand even the sunniest days, so you can be sure it won’t let you down on your outside run. Additionally, if you want to customize the face of your watch, you have plenty of options to choose from in the app. You can highlight different pieces of information, like the weather, the number of steps and so on. In order to cycle between the feature pages, all you have to do is swipe left or swipe right – they’re easy to access.
Samsung Galaxy Fit E
0.75 inch (or 1.9 cm) 64 x 128 PMOLEDNo touchscreenMonochrome
The display is not a touchscreen, but you can tap on the device in order to go through the feature pages. However, the screen lights up when you lift up your wrist – which is a nifty feature. The screen is monochrome, and the resolution is low enough to count the pixels, but honestly, we weren’t bothered much by this. It gives you all the information you need, the images are clear – what more could you want from a fitness band in this price range?
3. Fitness Tracking and Performance
Samsung Galaxy Fit
Running, Swimming and Cycling trackingNo GPS5 ATM water resistance
We’re sad to say that this was disappointing. The performance you get from this device is acceptable only for a lower price range. As there is no GPS chip, not only are you unable to map your running or cycling routes but also the distance accuracy is way off. It only records about 75-80% of the distance which is… unacceptable for this price range. However, as this difference is consistent, it could be solved with a system update, hopefully. Additionally, there are problems with heart monitoring as well – sometimes it double counts, leading to wrong measurements.
Samsung Galaxy Fit E
Can track around 90 different activities5 ATM water resistanceMostly accurate
Contrary to its more expensive brother, the Galaxy Fit E was pretty satisfactory – considering its price range. Even if it has a slight delay when counting your steps, it is mostly accurate, when compared to other devices and apps that do the same thing. It is the same with heart monitoring, it’s mostly accurate, but it only shows you beats per minute, so it’s just scientific information. However, considering how much you pay for the device, we were pretty impressed with the Fit E.
4. Features
Samsung Galaxy Fit
Shows notifications from your phoneStress trackingSleep tracking
The Galaxy Fit comes with some nifty extra features, like stress tracking. However, it doesn’t do more than just tracking, since there are no breathing exercises like in other bands. Additionally, it can show you notifications from your phone, so you can see your incoming calls or read your messages directly on your fitness band. It also comes with NFC, but its single-use is charging since the device doesn’t support Samsung Pay.
Samsung Galaxy Fit E
Sleep loggingNeeds 2 apps
If there was ever a fitness band perfect for monitoring sleep, this is the one – simply because it is so light and comfortable that you won’t feel it while sleeping. As for accuracy, at least for the hours logging, it was right most of the time. When it comes to details, like the heaviness of sleep, don’t expect miracles. It tries to log some information, but we couldn’t tell if it was accurate or not. Additionally, if you don’t have a Samsung smartphone, you’re going to need 2 apps to use the fitness band, but they are intuitive and simple to use, so we didn’t see this as much of an inconvenience.
5. Battery Life and Charging
Samsung Galaxy Fit
Wireless charging120mAh battery7 or 8 days official battery life
As with any fitness band, its battery life depends on how you use it and how many features you constantly check. However, this device’s sensors barely use any power to function, so basically it all comes down to the screen. Nevertheless, Samsung claims that with “low power” usage, the battery can even last up to 11 days.
Samsung Galaxy Fit E
A week of battery with no notifications enabledNo battery indicator70mAh battery
As you would expect at this price, there is no wireless charging, and you will get yet another weird-looking charger (with no adapter) in the package. But that’s okay. As for the battery life, even if there is no on-board indicator, even if you push everything this device has to the maximum, you should still get at least 3 or 4 days of usage per charge, which is acceptable.
