If you answered yes to any of these questions, then continue reading to learn how to play guitar using Android. Obviously, you’ll need a guitar first before you can learn how to play it from your Android device. We’ll not only show how intermediate guitar players can improve their skills, but we’ll also help complete beginners for the most basic lessons.

Basic Guitar Lessons

If you have some experience in guitar playing or if you know the absolute basics, then proceed to the next app in order to build on your basic knowledge.  For absolute beginners who don’t know the first thing about guitars, this app does a pretty good job at educating and preparing you for the slightly advanced lessons.

Step 1

Download and install Basic Guitar Lessons on your Android device. You can get the app through the Google Play button below.

Step 2

Open the app and you’ll be immediately taken to Lesson 1. The first couple of lessons will be for people who haven’t even touched the guitar before. Tap on the Lesson tabs to proceed to other lessons.

Step 3

Make sure that you gain enough understanding on the basics of the guitar including how to hold it and names of the Strings. While the app does feature some advanced lessons such as tuning and learning chords, we’ll use the second app to do all of that.

Gibson Learn and Master Guitar

The award winning Gibson Learn and Master Guitar is possibly the best guitar learning app available on the Google Play store. Not only is the app perfect for Android devices, but it is arguably one of the best ways to learn guitar from all the available methods. Coming from one of the most popular guitar manufacturers, Gibson, the app features everything that you need to master your guitar and the great thing is that it’s free.

Step 1

Download and install Gibson Learn and Master Guitar on your Android smartphone or tablet. You can get it through the Google Play button below. Unfortunately, the app isn’t supported on some Samsung devices, but you can still try it to check whether it works on your Samsung device.

Step 2

Open the app and click on the Tuner tab. While some people may ignore tuning their guitar, this is possibly the most important step. Click on individual strings in the app to play the sound on your Android device and hit the corresponding string on your real guitar to match the sound. Turn the machine heads (knobs) on the neck to change the sound and match it with the app.

Step 3

Click on the Chords tab for displaying charts of all the guitar chords. Chords are the most important part of learning a guitar as most of the songs that you’ll play will require certain chords. Make sure that you spend most of your time in this tab as learning chords will take the most time and effort.

Step 4

If you’re a slow learner or want an actual lesson for things like strumming and learning chord shapes, then tap on the Lessons tab for accessing Gibson’s learnings videos. There are over 20 videos and they’re available through YouTube.

Step 5

Lastly, tap on the Metronome tab. Learning guitar is one thing but you still need to practice it to make sure that you are indeed learning. Using the metronome, you’ll be able to practice the basic chords, strumming techniques and solos. Adjust the tempo by using the tempo bar and tap on the Start button to start the metronome at your desired tempo. That’s it!

Chord! Free

Lastly, I’d like to mention the Chord! Free app which is one of the best ways to master guitar chords using Android. If the Gibson Learn and Master Guitar app didn’t work on your Samsung device or if you’re looking for a way to make sure that you remember your previously learnt chords, then there isn’t a better way then Chord! Free.

Step 1

Download and install Chord! Free on your Android device. You can get it through the Google Play button below.

Step 2

Open the app, select Chords from the top left and choose between  Simple or Normal chords. You can also choose Scales instead of Chords.

Step 3

Select the name of the chord and choose the advanced settings such as minor or major. The chord’s position and fingering should now be available on the screen and you can either memorize this if you learnt it previously or practice it on your guitar. That’s it!

Conclusion

Guitar is possibly one of the most popular instruments and learning it could be really frustrating. A lot of people buy guitars but fail to learn it because a lot of commitment and hard work is needed. Taking official guitar lessons from a popular music institute or using guitar learning websites featuring some experts wouldn’t help you much if you lack the passion and commitment.
