With as nice as Android Lollipop is, it has its fair share of problems. The same is true when the Huawei P8 lite gets updated to 5.0 to shed its chocolate shell. Thankfully, the Huawei P8 lite’s problems have quick fixes and painless solutions. I’m going to mention the biggest problems the P8 lite has, but I have additional solutions for the smaller ones. With most P8 lite problems, you can fix them by:

Performing a soft reset Performing a hard reset Wiping the cache partition Turning the device on and off Booting into safe mode

You don’t have to do all of these in order, but I’ll provide an explanation for each if you have a problem that you don’t see here.

1. Soft Resetting the P8 lite

One of the first troubleshooting tools in your arsenal is the soft reset. In most version of Android, all you need to do to soft reset is:

Press and hold the Power button and the Volume Down Keep these held down for ten seconds.

That’s it, and then your phone should reset. This is a process that’s recommended every three to four days, not just when you have an issue.

2. Hard Resetting the P8 lite

A hard reset is just what it sounds like, a more intense version of a soft reset. A hard reset will wipe all of your user data. There are multiple ways to hard reset an Android phone. Before performing a hard reset, otherwise known as a Factory Reset, backup all of your data because there is no getting it back. A hard reset shouldn’t be your first option, but is a surefire way to fix any software issues.

3. Wiping the P8 lite’s Cache Partition

Thankfully, wiping the P8 lite’s cache partition isn’t any harder to do than on any other Android phone.

4. Booting the P8 lite into Safe Mode

Booting your phone into safe mode is an easy way to determine if a software issue is causing you a problem. Most often, if you have a software bug, it won’t show up while in safe mode. There are two easy ways to boot your phone into safe mode, just remember to turn it off when you’re done. Now that I’m done going over all of the quick fixes, let’s get into the biggest P8 lite issues.

5. Inaccurate GPS

For some users, the GPS on the Huawei P8 lite can be inaccurate at measuring distance, and even correct directions.

I’d be lost constantly without my phone to guide me, so this is an issue that needs to be fixed immediately if you’ve noticed your GPS is acting strangely.

How to Fix It:

There are a few ways to fix the GPS desync or GPS inaccuracies. You can:

In your Battery or Energy settings, make sure your settings are defaulted to Normal. Try switching to airplane mode for at least five minutes, and then try your GPS again. Close out of other apps while using the GPS. Perform either a soft reset, hard reset or a cache partition wipe.

6. Dispute on OTG Support

I’ve seen a few comments about OTG support (USB On the Go) not working on the Huawei P8 lite, and asking how to fix it. Unfortunately, there is no fix for this situation, because the P8 lite does not natively support this function. If you’re looking for storage options on the Huawei P8 lite, you’ll need to stick to micro SD cards.

7. Inaccurate Keyboard

Nothing frustrates me faster than a malfunctioning keyboard, especially while I’m almost finished typing a message. Some P8 lite users have experience keyboard registering double taps on single-taps, and the wrong keys being pressed.

How to Fix It:

There isn’t one surefire way (aside from soft/hard resets) to fix this problem, but you can: Change your current keyboard to a different one. In your keyboard settings, disable vibration and popups. Lastly, try a soft reset, and if that doesn’t work, a hard reset.

8. Denied Access to a Wi-Fi Network

It’s one thing to be denied access to a public Wi-Fi network, but what about your network at home? This isn’t just a problem with the P8 lite, but potentially all Android phones. There’s almost nothing more important than keeping your phone connected, so this is an issue that deserves a quick a fix.

How to Fix It:

To fix your Wi-Fi access, you can: First, try a soft reset before anything else. Delete your connection settings on your device, and then reconnect them. Move your phone closer to the Wi-Fi router before connecting again. If NFC functions are enabled, disable them, and try connecting again. As a last resort, you can perform a hard reset.

9. Huawei Home Not Responding

If you’ve been experiencing general lag with your P8 lite, and have received the message “Huawei Home is not responding. Would you like to close it?” You are thankfully (or unfortunately) not alone.

How to Fix It:

I’m not sure what causes this issue (other than a potential software bug), nor do I have a precise method to fix it. All you can do is follow the above methods at the beginning of the article until the lag and corresponding message disappear.

10. Can’t Enter Software Upgrade Mode

Updating the Huawei P8 is highly recommended. Not only will it fix some of the issues on this list, but it will prevent more of them from occurring. However, the suggested instructions to enter Software Upgrade Mode are incorrect.

How to Fix It:

To enter Software Upgrade Mode, hold down the power, volume up, and volume down buttons together at the same time for at least ten seconds.

11. Screen Recording Not Working

Screen recording isn’t essential but is a benefit that all Android users deserve to have it working as advertised.

If your recording functions aren’t working, there are a few steps you can take to fix it.

How to Fix It:

There’s only one fix for this problem aside from the usual methods. You’ll need to switch recording methods to either AZ Screen Recorder, or Shou. If neither of these apps work, your only option will be either a soft or hard reset.

12. IMEI Number Disappearing

Your IMEI number disappearing isn’t a common problem, but it’s an important one that needs to be quickly addressed. Normally, this doesn’t happen when your P8 lite is on the most recent firmware.

How to Fix it:

To fix this issue, you’ll need to wipe all user data and install the latest firmware update available. Unfortunately, I don’t know of any other legitimate methods to get the IMEI number to return. Make sure you’ve backed up all of your user data before wiping.

Conclusion
