What is Google Lens?

Google has developed an image recognition technology called Google Lens. The app identifies using visual analysis. Moreover, it does not only name objects but also gives out relevant information related to the object.  Simply point your camera to an object around you, or take photos of objects, and Google Lens will identify that object for you. Also, you can do image searches on the app as well. Google Lens can also translate foreign words for you. It can be most useful when traveling to a foreign country, and you need translation for almost anything.  Lens was one of Google’s biggest announcements in 2017 and a Google Pixel exclusive feature when that phone launched. Since then, Google Lens has come to be used by the majority of people because of its features. Read: Google Pixel 7 Release Date – A Sneak Peak

What can Google Lens do?

Aside from the things described above, Google Lens also offers the following:  Smart text Selection: You can point your phone’s camera at a text and copy it on your phone. So, for instance, imagine pointing your phone at a Wi-Fi password and being able to copy and paste it into a Wi-Fi login screen. Smart text search: When you highlight text in Google Lens, you can also search that text with Google. This is useful if you need to look up a definition of a word without typing the word manually. Google homework questions: You can just scan your homework questions, and Google will come up with answers for them.

How to Use Google Lens?

Needless to say, Google Lens is very easy to use. But for an even easier understanding, this article will provide the steps below.  But first, download the Google Lens app from the app store first if you don’t have it yet. Open App Store > Search Google > Download the app.

Sign in to the app with your existing Google credentials or create a new one.

Step 2

You’ll find the Google lens icon on the homepage on the search bar.

Step 4

Point Google Lens at an object you want to identify or know more about.  If the lighting is poor, you can activate your phone’s flashlight using the lightning bolt icon to illuminate the object in the frame.

Step 5

Tap the shutter button. Google Lens will then identify the object you snapped and will display relevant information relating to the object.

Step 6

If you want to use Lens on the picture you’ve already taken, tap the picture icon at the bottom left (next to the shutter icon) to access your photo library, and select a photo. Lens will then analyze the object and give the results at the bottom of the page. Also read:
