When you find yourself needing apps and other capabilities outside of Android, you are tempted to get a second handset model – this time choosing iPhone. There was a time when file transfer from Android to iPhone was an impossible task. This is because iOS and Android are two separate operating systems and–up to this point–incompatible with each other.  That’s no longer the case these days. With the fast advancement in technology, there are now multiple ways you can transfer data from Android to iOS. Here are three of the easiest methods to try:

1. Move to iOS

Move to iOS is an app that lets you transfer data from Android to iPhone quickly and easily. You can download the app from Google Play Store. It can’t help you move your passwords, apps, and music but it does a pretty good job of calendars, contacts, photos, videos, and text messages.  The Move to iOS app supports tablets and phones that run Android 4.0 + and iOS 9.  Before you get started, make sure to do the following:

Turn on the Wi-Fi on your Android deviceMake sure that your iPhone and your Android device is plugged into a power sourceCheck to see if your iPhone has enough storage to hold the data that you will transfer from the Android phoneIf you want to transfer your bookmarks as well, make sure that you download the latest update of Chrome onto your Android device

Transfer Process

While setting up your new iOS device, look for the Apps & Data screen and then tap Move Data from AndroidMake sure that you don’t finish the setup just yetNow, go to your Android phone  Open the Move to iOS appTap Agree and then click NextGo back to your iPhone Tap Continue under the Move from Android screenA code will appear on your iPhoneSometimes, you will get a notification from your Android device that you have a weak internet connection. If this happens, you can ignore itType the code into your Android phoneWait for the Transfer Data screen to appearOn your Android, select the files or data that you want to transfer to your iPhoneTap NextEven after the screen says that the transfer process is complete, leave both devices alone until the loading bar that appears on your iPhone is finishedOnce the loading bar on your iPhone is finished, you can proceed to fully set up your iOS

2. ShareIt

ShareIt is a wonderful app that is available on both Android and iOS. The great thing about this app is that it can transfer any type of file whether it be photos, videos, apps, games, you name it.  In our opinion, it is a much better option than Move to iOS since it lets you transfer your entire file system into your new iPhone. In contrast, Move to iOS will only allow you to transfer your regular files.  Before you begin, make sure that you download and install ShareIt on both your iPhone and Android phone. Similar to Move to iOS, you also need to make sure that your iPhone has enough storage to hold all of the files and apps that you are about to transfer.

Transfer Process

Open the ShareIt app from both your Android and iPhoneTap the Send ButtonSelect all the files and apps that you want to transfer to your iPhoneWhen a radar-like screen starts to show up, click on the three-dotted menuSelect Connect to iOSTap Continue when the pop-up appears

On your iPhone, go to Settings > WiFi  and connect to the network named after the one shown on the ShareIt appOpen the ShareIt app on your iPhoneClick ReceiveTap Connect to AndroidIf it is your first time pairing with the device, you will be asked to scan a QR code from your Android deviceAfterward, your iPhone will start receiving the files

3. Use Dropbox

Dropbox is a modern, cloud workspace that lets you store your files on the cloud server so that you can access them on the go.  It’s often used by companies to enable their team to access company information and data in a centralized location. But you can also use it for your personal files. The latter will enable you to access your files on any device through the Dropbox app.

Transfer Process

A word of advice before you get started: make sure that your iPhone has enough memory to store all the files that you will be transferring. Depending on how many files you’ll be transferring, it would be best to do so after fully charging your iPhone.

On your Android and iPhone, download and install Dropbox from Google PlaystoreCreate a Dropbox account or sign in to the one you already have on your Android phoneOpen the Dropbox app on your Android phoneTap the ‘+’ signClick Create or Upload FileSelect Upload FilesSelect the files that you want to transfer to your iPhoneClick SelectWait for the files to be uploaded on DropBox

Open the Dropbox app on your iPhoneSign in to the same Dropbox account on your Android phoneClick the checkbox on the top-left corner of the screenTick the box of the files that you want to download to your iPhoneSelect ExportClick Save to FilesWait for the files to be exported completelyChoose where you want the files to be savedClick Save

Pro Tip: Unless these files are needed to edit while on your phone, you can just opt to save them for offline use. The files will not be saved on your iPhone, just on your Dropbox app but you’ll still be able to access them offline.

Click the tripled-dot menu underneath the file that you want to save for offline useTap Make Available OfflineRepeat the process for the rest of the files that you want to save for offline use

Wrapping Up!

At a glance, transferring data from Android to iPhone is relatively straightforward. But outcomes can vary on a case-to-case basis. Sometimes it works and other times it doesn’t. It’s good to know that you have alternatives at your disposal.
