Before I get into the actual rooting, I want to give you a warning up front. As a warning some, if not all, of these rooting options will void your warranty or damage user data. Please backup your phone before attempting a root.
Method 1: Rooting with Odin
First I’m going to talk about the most traditional rooting method, flashing files with Odin. For this rooting option, you’ll need:
A data cableA PCRoot files that match up with your model numberThe latest copy of Odin10-20 minutes of your time
You don’t need to unlock your bootloader for this method, but I still recommend you backup your device in case anything goes wrong.
Step 1:
Before any other step, you need to confirm that your model number lines up with any available root files compatible with Odin. If your model number isn’t on the list above, this method will not work. DO NOT flash a file with a model number other than yours. If you flash a file for a model number other than your own, you will brick your device. If you don’t know your model number, you can find it if you:
Navigate to your SettingsScroll to About phone or About device, and select itScroll down to your Model Number on the new menu, and confirm it
Step 2:
Now that you have your model number, you need to download the file associated with it off of chainfire’s website. For the sake of this example, I’m going to assume your model number is SM-A7009. Click download to the far right of the bar that has your model number. You’ll be taken to a new page, this one if your model number is SM-A7009. Download the rar at the bottom of the page and keep the file somewhere you can reach easily.
Step 3:
Next, download Odin v3.09, there are a few links on that page, but v3.09 is the one you want. Odin After downloading the file, please place it somewhere you can access easily.
Step 4:
Now you’ll need to prep your phone, and the files required for the root. First, unpack both the Odin and chainfire rar files and keep them together in a folder. Depending on the chainfire version you’ve downloaded, you’ll already have an exe for Odin packaged with the root files. You may use either version of Odin to complete the root. Now that you have your files ready, power off your phone completely and boot it into download mode:
Once your phone is powered off, press and hold the Home, Power and Volume Down buttons together for a few seconds
You should see a warning screen.
Press Volume Up to accept the warning, and proceed to download mode
Keep your phone off to the side for now with your data cable ready.
Step 5:
Once everything is prepared, run your preferred copy of Odin. Now connect your phone in its current state to your PC, Odin should react by showing a yellow light in one of the boxes near the top. Now in Odin:
Select either AP or PDA by clicking the buttonNavigate to where your downloaded .tar or .md5 file is locatedSelect the file and confirm your selection
Additionally, if the Auto Reboot and F. Restart Time boxes are not checked, check them. Now hit Start to begin the root process. This shouldn’t take long, and when the process is finished, your phone should boot into recovery automatically.
Step 6:
Your phone is now rooted if you’ve followed all the steps successfully, so the last thing to do is search your apps for SuperSU. If you can’t find it, you can download it from the Google Play Store. This app will be required for giving root access to other apps on your device. Additionally, you can download Root Checker to confirm your device has been rooted at any time.
Method 2: Kingroot APK (No PC Required)
Kingroot is one of many rooting services that take a lot of work out of the process for the ease of the user. In fact, Kingroot doesn’t need a PC to root your phone, all you need is the APK. Download and installation should only take you five minutes or less, so this is a heavily recommended option.
Step 1:
First things first, please make a backup of all of your user data. No matter how tried and tested a method is, there’s always the chance for error. Make sure your data is protected.
Step 2:
If you didn’t grab it earlier, you can find the Kingroot APK here available for download. Make sure to download the APK through your phone, and not on a PC. Make sure you download the latest version of Kingroot.
Step 3:
Now install the downloaded APK, this won’t take very long. If the installation is blocked, you can enable installations from unknown sources in your settings. After it’s installed, you can run the app as normal.
Step 4:
Launch the app, and tap the Try It button on the bottom of the screen. You’ll reach a new menu that claims you don’t have root access. For right now, it’s correct, but after you hit the Get now button, the root process will start. The time for the process to finish varies. Do not panic if the root percentage hangs for a few moments, it will resume shortly.
Step 5:
Once the process finishes, back out to home screen again, and download the Root Checker app to confirm if the root worked. If it did, congratulations, you’re now rooted!
Method 3: One Click Root
One Click Root does just what it says it does, it roots most devices in just one click. However, this is only true if you don’t count the several clicks required to install and unpack the software.
Step 1:
First, let’s visit the website. This is exactly the kind of web design I like, no fluff, and gets straight to what you want, a download link front and center. Give the download button on the website a click to download the software you need. Additionally, there’s a button to check if your model is compatible with this method.
Step 2:
After downloading, install the software through the setup wizard. This won’t take long, and One Click Root will open up as soon as you confirm the installation has finished.
Step 3:
Before you proceed, I recommend you backup your device, and then check one more time if your device model is compatible with One Click Root.
Step 4:
There’s only one thing left to do, and that’s follow the onscreen instructions. Make sure your device has at least 25% battery, connect it to your PC via a data cable, and then click Root Now. Now all you have to do is wait, and your phone will be rooted successfully.
Step 5:
As one more additional step, download Root Checker to confirm your device has been rooted successfully. Once you’ve confirmed this, the whole rooting world is your cliché oyster.
Conclusion
Once you’ve rooted the Galaxy A7, there’s no arguing that it’s already a better device.
