We’ve prepared a guide that explains the easiest method to root a Nexus 6 on Marshmallow. Before rooting, be sure to make a backup of your important files, and keep your battery charged in case you run into any issues during the rooting process. You can also backup your files during step 4 of the guide. You Will Need: Before you start you will need to download:

Method 1:

Step 1:

Copy and paste the downloaded SuperSU and Shamu Kernel files to the storage folder of your Nexus 6. Make sure to remember this location as you’ll need it for a later step.

Step 2:

You will then need to boot the device into Recovery mode. This can be done by switching off the device, and holding the Volume Up, Volume Down, and Power buttons together until the device boots into Fastboot mode.

Step 3:

From Fastboot mode, press Volume Down twice to enter the Recovery screen, and press the Power button to select and boot into Recovery mode. Here’s a video showing the process of getting into Recovery mode on the Nexus 6:

Step 4:

You can now make a backup of your files using TWRP recovery. Tap Backup and choose the option to Swipe to Back Up.

Step 5:

In the main menu of TWRP, tap Install, and select the Custom Kernel file from step 1. Swipe to confirm the flash. Warning: Flash the Custom Kernel first, not SuperSU.

Step 6:

Head back to Install, and do the same for the SuperSU file from step 1. Swipe to confirm.

Step 7:

Return to the main menu, and select Reboot.

Step 8:

Your device should now restart with full root access. Congratulations!
