Back in the days Samsung apps were downright garbage, and many were widely considered bloatware. Thankfully, these days Samsung has upped their game and most of their apps are generally useful. This doesn’t mean that they are bug free though. To be fair, even Google apps have errors and glitches every now and then, so we wouldn’t hold it against Samsung. This is going to be a short article on how to fix the Samsung keyboard without much effort. It is a surprisingly common error that has been popping up since forever. This is exactly why we recommend that you check out the best keyboards for Android so that you always have a backup in case the Samsung keyboard decides to quit on you. So without further ado, let’s check out how you can fix the Samsung keyboard.

Method 1: Restart the Device

Restarting the device should be the first thing you do whenever you face an error. Even if it’s not related to the Samsung keyboard, generally restarting the device solves the issue without any problem. In order to restart your device you’ll have to do this: Step 1: Press and hold the power button until a menu comes up on the screen. Step 2: From there select the restore option by tapping on the icon. Step 3: Your device will take a few moments, depending on its model to restart. Step 4: Now try out the Samsung keyboard and see if the problem has gone or not.

Method 2: Restart the Keyboard

If restarting your phone doesn’t work, then you should try restarting the keyboard itself. Yes, I know it doesn’t show up in the recent apps menu, but there is a nifty way to make it stop functioning and then restarting it without much effort. Here is what you need to do: Step 1: Go to the settings of your smartphone, it is usually found in the app drawer or on the notification shade. Step 2: From there navigate to the applications or apps section. Step 3: Alternatively, you can also search for Application Manager and select that option. Step 4: From there you can press on the top right corner button to display more options. Step 5: Choose the option that says “Show System Apps”, or something along those lines. Step 6: Now simply scroll down the list to find Samsung Keyboard. Step 7: Tap on the icon and a new window will open. Step 8: From there you can simply press on “Force Stop” option to shut down the Samsung keyboard. Step 9: Press on the button again to restart it.

Method 3: Clear Cache and Data

This is one of the most useful methods to fix the Samsung keyboard and any other app for that matter. What it basically does is completely factory reset’s single app to its default settings. It is almost akin to simply uninstalling an app and installing a fresh copy. However, as the Samsung keyboard is a system app, we cannot simply uninstall and reinstall it. Step 1: Go to the settings of your device. Step 2: Search or navigate to the Application Manager. Step 3: From there tap on the top right corner button and select Show System Apps option. Step 4: Now simply navigate to the Samsung keyboard and tap on the icon. Step 5: In the new window, select the storage option. Step 6: A new window will open up with a Clear Data and Clear Cache buttons. Step 7: All you need to do is simply tap on the clear data button and the keyboard will be completely reset to its default settings.

Method 4: Reset Keyboard Settings

Now if you don’t want to completely lose all your saved words and phrases, you can simply go the shorter route and reset your keyboard settings. While it is not as effective as completely clearing cache and data, it is certainly worth a shot. Step 1: Go to the settings menu of your device. Step 2: Navigate to the Language and Input section. Step 3: Depending on your device you will be given a few options, look for the option that says “keyboard settings”. Step 4: Tap on it and select the Samsung Keyboard. Step 5: Navigate down and you’ll see the reset settings option. Step 6: Now all you need to do is press that button and your keyboard will be reset.

Method 5: Get a New Keyboard

If all else fails, then you can simply download a better keyboard from the Google Play Store. That’s right, we are going to go ahead and recommend that you dump the keyboard that’s giving you problems and select a new default keyboard. Thankfully, Android allows you to never look at the Samsung keyboard again. We highly recommend the SwiftKey keyboard. I’ve been personally using it for almost 4 years and it never crashed on me. Even though I have saved almost 10,000 words and phrases, it works perfectly fine and provides an exceptional experience. One of the best things about a 3rd party keyboard is that even if you move away from a Samsung device, you’ll be simply able to retain all of your settings on the other smartphone. I have switched many phones over the years and have absolutely no trouble with the keyboard because I still use the same keyboard on every smartphone.
