If you’re looking for a way to replace the cracked glass on your own and at a much cheaper price, continue reading to find out how you can do it on your own. This guide is to fix cracked screen of Samsung Galaxy S3. Your device’s actual display must be working if you want to replace the front glass.

What You Need

Aside from that, you’ll also need a heat gun or hair dryer in order to heat up the glue on the cracked screen. Lastly, some patience will be needed if you want to replace the screen successfully.

How To Replace the Cracked Screen

Only attempt to replace the screen if you know what you’re doing and if you’ve used some hardware tools before. I’ll only show you the steps that you’ll need to perform and you should only do it at your own responsibility.

Step 1

Open the back cover of your phone, remove the battery and slide out the SIM and micro SD cards. This is probably the easiest step in this entire guide.

Step 2

Remove the screws using the star screwdriver that is in the screen replacement package. After removing the screws on the back, the back frame should come off.

Step 3

In order to take out the motherboard, remove the screw on the motherboard. Removing the motherboard is optional, but you can take it out to ensure it doesn’t get damaged due to the heat from the heat gun or hair dryer. If you don’t want to remove the motherboard, proceed to Step 7.

Step 4

Lift the display and Wi-Fi antenna cable gently from the motherboard using the plastic separation tool.

Step 5

Lift the front facing camera and digitizer cable gently with the plastic separation tool.

Step 6

Remove the motherboard from the body of the phone gently. The motherboard should easily come off.

Step 7

Use a heat gun or a hair dryer around all the borders and corners of the screen. This might take about 2 to 5 minutes. If you’re using a hair dryer, this might take a lot of time. Don’t overheat the phone as this might damage the digitizer. We’re only heating up the glue behind the glass so that it comes off easily.

Step 8

This will be the hardest step. Using the guitar picks and plastic separation tools in the glass replacement package, start removing the glass. Start from the top border of the screen and work your way towards the bottom. Make sure that some of the picks or opening tools are in place behind the glass while you’re working on another border to avoid the borders getting glued again.

This will take a lot of patience and hard work. Don’t rush into it because you might damage the actual display of the screen. Be extra careful while removing the glass from the bottom of the screen because the on screen buttons are also glued there. You might need to use the heat gun again during the whole process and at the bottom so that the buttons can get detached from the glass.

Step 9

If you have a lot of broken glass, you’ll need to remove the individual glass pieces carefully.

Step 10

You might need to use some sticker tape in order to glue the buttons on the bottom. Make sure that the buttons are glued at the right place.

Step 11

Before placing the new glass, you might want to clean the screen on your Galaxy S3.

Step 12

Remove the plastic from the new screen. Do not touch the inner side of the glass.

Step 13

Put the glass on your Galaxy S3. Take as much time as you need and apply the new glass carefully. Once the new glass is placed on the display, press on the borders of the screen to make sure that the glass is properly glued around the borders. That’s it! You have successfully replaced the cracked glass on your Galaxy S3.

Step 14

Reassemble your device. Put in the motherboard first and make sure all that cables are properly attached as they were before you took out the motherboard.

Step 15

Put the screws back in place for the motherboard.

Step 16

Put the border back on the phone and reconnect it by tightening the screws.

Step 17

Put the battery, SIM and micro SD cards in place. That’s it! Your Galaxy S3 should now be as good as new! (Image Credits: www.ifixit.com)
