One great thing about iMovies I like is its accessibility, almost anyone can simply start using it without having to learn much about it. Thankfully, most of the apps on the 5 Android apps similar to iMovies list are just as easy to use on your smartphone or tablet. Note: These 5 apps similar to iMovies were tested on a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge smartphone as well as a Sony Xperia Z. Editing videos on these apps was really easy and I was able to make good quality content while using them. Just for the sake of simplicity, I will be discussing the interface, the output time and features of the apps in this article. Some of the features may require an Internet connection but it is not always mandatory. The apps are not in any particular order.

1. PowerDirector Video Editor

Conclusion:

These were some of the best Android apps similar to iMovies and I’m sure they will impress you thoroughly when you use them. Sure, they won’t come close to Adobe Premier or After Effects anytime soon but for what they offer, they are some compelling pieces of technology. From free video effects to a powerful timeline based video editing system and from action movie effects to the ability of including voiceover, the app has a lot to offer. With this app on your side you’ll be able to easily edit footage as in iMovies and Final Cut. To get started all you need to do is import media from your device and that’s about it, the whole interface is very intuitive and allows you to manipulate videos however you like. Video effects editing is easy with drag-and-drop controls and gives you a lot of creative freedom. If you want to combine a picture with a video, you can easily do that with this app as well. 2. KineMaster – Pro Video Editor

The layer based system allows you to include video, images, text as well as multiple track audio in one editing session. From there you can manipulate the volume however you like, color LUT filters and include 3-D transitions between different videos and scenes. Overall I’m really impressed with the video editing prowess this nifty little Android app has. If you are a Pro that needs a capable video editing companion on the go, this can be your best choice. 3. VideoShow – Video Editor

With this app on your side all you need to do is point the app towards a video and it will make it look instantly better by processing it with different filters as well as effects. Think of it as an automated system that is designed to make your videos look better. How can this be achieved? Well there are several settings that you can manipulate while using this app and there are many templates that make the whole automation process easier. For example, if you have a skateboarding video that you want to edit, just select the template that closely suits your needs and go. I think the app actually uploads the video clip to the cloud and then downloads it back when it’s edited, so it may take a little while for your video to get processed. You don’t have to worry though, smaller videos are done in minutes and you don’t have to keep the app open at all times. Free Version

4. Quik

If you’re in a hurry and need a quality editing app that will take the load off your hands, this is the best option for you. You can add up to 75 photos and video clips from multiple different sources that include your smartphone gallery, Google photos and even dropbox. The app automatically analyzes your video clips and makes quick edits based on a very smart algorithm. However, you can keep certain key scenes if you want, by adding highlights and selecting your own moments. I also like how the app is able to detect faces and colors to frame photos really nicely, all the while giving you the option of manually cropping them. There are 23 video styles available on this app and they all have unique transitions and graphics. You can also adjust the fonts, graphics and filters of any of the video styles as you please. 5. FilmoraGo

Don’t get me wrong there are several filters and templates available for you to use but there is not much room for modifications on them. Basically you can pick a theme, add your music, filter and titles and transitions and that’s about it. This can be a great thing if you’re not going deeper into the editing process and this is exactly why I have included it on the list. It is a straightforward and easy Android app similar to iMovies and I think it provides a great value and speed for free. You can easily share the resulting videos instantly from the app not only on YouTube or Vimeo, but also Facebook. Free Version If you’re a traveler who likes to upload videos of their adventures, these apps provide a great and simple way to make good quality videos without the need of carrying a heavy laptop around with you.
